What I Wore Today

Love ‘em.  Kind of surprised to find this at Target. I’m not sure what it’s referencing, but I thought it was beautiful.

Wallpaper

I was attracted to these pants because they reminded me of the wallpaper in the house I lived in in Newburgh, IN from 1967-1970 (that’s birth to three).  I can’t actually remember the wallpaper, I just remember some photos.

There was also this Rolling Stones-Mod-Dandy-Austin Powers vibe I was getting, so I worked that angle with the ascot thing.

  • Pants & pumps: Target
  • Jacket: White House Black Market
  • White shirt: Macy’s
  • Scarf: thrifted, can’t remember from where
  • Earrings: thrifted from the SA in Evansville, IN
  • Sunglasses: Tsering Jewelry on Durant

Plaid & Leopard

I LOVE blackwatch plaid.  Almost as much as I love leopard print.  In college, I loved plaid more, but my leopard-love emerged when I was about 23.  Not sure how that happened.  The end of the 1980’s, giving way to grunge maybe?

  • Suit: Target (recent Merona)
  • Sweater: Target, Isaac Mizrahi, about five yrs ago
  • Leopard pumps: vintage, from Mars on Telegraph
  • Belt: Hot Topic
  • Stud earrings: Avril Lavigne from Kohl’s
  • Sunglasses: Tsering Jewelry on Durant

Photos by Hemisha at Dwinelle Hall.

Leopard-Giraffe

I like my long neck, which is kind of a rebellion against my mom, who used to say “Cover up that bony neck!”

  • Skirt & top: Target
  • Boots: Lauren Ralph Lauren, from my brother
  • Necklace & bangles: Bakers
  • Earrings: Joan Rivers for QVC.com
  • Sunglasses: Lola Star on Coney Island
  • Tights: K-Mart

I like how my sunglasses look like cat ears.
I love this leopard scarf I found at Payless.  It’s so fluffy and light.  And it was BOGO. (YOLO)
I thought I was feeling better yesterday, so I went to work, but it was a false alarm.  I left early, still feeling yucky.
Infinity scarf: Payless
Top: J. Crew, thrifted from my neighborhood Goodwil
Jeans & moto boots: Target
Chain bracelet: F21
Stud earrings: Kohls, by Avril Lavigne
Sunglasses: Lola Star in Coney Island

Paniers

I don’t know if that’s the right term for the big things on my hips, but what I’m trying to refer to is the exaggerated width of the hip area in 18th century women’s costume, and my fascination with Target’s design reference to it in 2008.

I’m also pleased with the fact that I’m in a place in my life where I have no qualms about exaggerating the size of my hips.  Even though I’ve been thin all my life, there was a long period of time where I never would have dreamed of wearing anything that wasn’t “slimming.”  So glad I’m over that.

Dress: Target, the Go International line.  My friend Dawn has a super-cute dress in this pattern, so I went searching for it on the Target markdown racks (Dawn didn’t mind).  I found that dress, AND this awesome dress.  It was too big, but I liked it so much I bought it then had it altered, which of course cost more than the dress.  It looks much better without the sweater, but that’s how I ended up wearing it today, and my commitment to sartorial accuracy won out in the pics.  It was cold in the Bay!

Bolero sweater: Isaac Mizrahi for Target, from the Goodwill in STL.

Leggings: a variety store in the Mission.

Sandals: Via Spiga, from a church thrift store in Oakland.  They’re furry velvet.

Bracelets: Wet Seal.

Necklace: Charlotte Russe.  I like how this necklace looks like smooth stones, and the dress reminds me of gravel.

Crystal ball earrings: from Kate.

Sunglasses: Mars on Telegraph in Berkeley.

Shopping outfit.
Here’s what I wore Sunday to go shopping at Target:
Tunic: Sears.  This is the white version of the black one from yesterday.
Tube skirt: Target.
Ice cube necklace: ABC Trading Co. in STL.
Flats: La Bonitas in the Mission.
Purse: Dillards in STL.
Bracelet: New York & Co.
Stud earrings: Avril Lavigne for Kohl’s.
This is a really conservative look for me.  I like this skirt a lot because of the stripes and the shape, but I haven’t really figured out how to wear it yet.
